FRANKLIN, MD
Franklin is located near the southern edge of the Georges Creek Coalfield. The town
dates back to the 1850's and the original owner, the Franklin Coal Co. Evidently the large Davis Coal & Coke Co. was
a later operator of the Franklin Mine. In 1904 there were "about forty-five men and boys" mining coal at Franklin.
