PATTON, PA

Howard Gas Coal Company, with headquaters in Greensburg, Pa., opened the Louise No. 1 and Louise No. 2 coal mines in the early 1900s and 1924, respectively, in Salem Twp., Westmoreland County. The associated company town of Patton was constructed as well. The Patton mines operated until the Louise No. 2 mine shut down in 1956.

There are only a few remaining coal company duplex houses at Patton.
