COALGOOD (MARY HELEN), KY

The Mary Helen Coal Co. opened the Coalgood mines and company town in 1919. In the 1980s the mine was run by Great Western Resources. So there must have been continuous coal mining here for nearly 100 years.

One thing that saved this company store is that the Coalgood post office was in it until 2004. (2017 image by author)

The coal company built this walkway over the railroad so people could walk to church. (2017 image by author)
